WATERTOWN, N.Y. -- The New York State Zoo at Thompson Park in Watertown is just about ready to introduce some new animals.

The first is a one-year-old male lynx. He came to the zoo from Canada and is only days away from being ready to join a four-year-old female in the exhibit.

The zoo also just recently welcomed seven new baby wolves. They are now just a couple of weeks old and so far, all of them seem healthy.

The zoo says it's hopeful they can be ready for the public next month.

"Their mom regularly checks up on them. She does have access to the exhibit, so she'll go back and forth to check on them. Their eyes just started appearing yesterday. So they're opening up. They're gaining strength and weight and what not," said Thompson Park Zoo Executive Director John Wright.

Wright says sometime next year when the wolves are ready to break out on their own, some of them will be lent to zoos all across the country for educational purposes.
