LEWIS COUNTY, N.Y. -- The American Cancer Society is about to start a major study on cancer prevention and the Lewis County chapter is hoping you will help out.
The chapter is looking for people to enroll in the study called "Cancer Prevention Study -3." It's open to anyone age 30 to 65, who's willing to make a long-term commitment with annual follow ups and has not been diagnosed with cancer. The hope is that the study will allow researchers to better understand the genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors that cause or prevent cancer.
"Had it not been for the research done and the medicine and materials used to keep me healthy, I wouldn't be here today. I'm just grateful for all that the American Cancer Society has done with the research that has been accomplished in the past," said cancer survivor Gordon Allen.
There will be three different sign ups in Lewis County. Kraft Foods will host one on June 19th. Otis Technology's will be the 20th and it wraps up at Lewis County General Hospital on Thursday June 21st.
