There were protests in the streets of Charlotte Tuesday as a march reminiscent of the Occupy Wall Street movement took place. YNN's Courtney Gross filed the following report.

Members of the Occupy Wall Street movement clashed with Charlotte police during an hours-long march down one of Charlotte's major streets on Tuesday. The march led to three arrests. At one point, protesters laid down in the street and refused to move.

The demonstrators were faced with row after row of police officers.

The march was reminiscent of the Occupy Wall Street movement in Zuccotti Park last year.

They, too, have set up camp in a park. Theirs has much more green.

Some of the participants actually occupied Zuccotti Park last year. Others have somewhat similar demands.

"We think the country is in a great distress right now and we want to convey that to the public and we want the public to ask the politicians, 'Why aren't we talking about these really important issues?'" said one.

There were a whole array of issues for the protesters. Nuclear war. Criminal justice.

It was the second major march seen so far in Charlotte.

And the larger demonstrations appear to be coming not from the the right but from the left.

Following the clash, protesters planned to regroup later on Tuesday night to take on the convention during prime time.

But the weather, with intermittent downpours, dampened the crowd.

Nonetheless, some three dozen protesters left their home base to confront the convention once more.

Others say they are planning more demonstrations as the convention continues on.

"I think it went pretty good," said one. "It was a really positive thing that happened. In the future, we are going to have more organized marches, more organized protests."

As long as the weather cooperates.
