Jane Frey has always had dogs and cats in her life and did not want to give up the companionship of a pet when she retired to a senior living community. That is why she chose a place where pets are welcome.

These days, many senior living communities either allow residents to bring along pets or have community pets that live in common areas for everyone to enjoy. Amy Sgromo is in marketing for Maple Downs and is happy to tell people looking for a place to retire that pets are allowed there.

Every community has their own rules regarding pets, including limitations on the type of pets allowed as well as limitations on their size. Pets must also be properly socialized, well cared for, and up to date on all vaccinations. There may also be additional fees for pet care and a security deposit required.

Before making any major decisions about your retirement that will affect you and your animal companions, ask a lot of questions and get the answers you need to feel comfortable with your future plans.
