This 'Fort Getaway' is a great family getaway! Fort Ticonderoga, near Lake George, New York, has everything you need when it comes to American history. Two wars, one fort celebrating their 103rd season with new programs, living history weekends, new exhibits and so much more! Expect to spend at least three to four hours reliving the past. Bring comfortable shoes and water, especially during the summer.

Open daily 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., though October 18, 2012.

Admission: Adults $17.50, Seniors $14, ages 5-12 $8, 4 and under free!
