You'd think the Seneca Lake Wine Trail would be nothing but great wineries. Wrong! Among the many wine makers along the scenic east side of the lake, there's a huge white building up on the hillside overlooking Route 414 called 'Finger Lakes Distilling'. They may be surrounded my grape vines but they don't make wine! They make handmade spirits!

Using locally grown fruits and grains, this New York State Wine Country establishment is all about whiskey, vodka and cordials. The tasting room overlooks the enormous, copper still shipped in from Germany! $2 for 3 tastings. Open 7 days a week from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closed major holidays. (607) 546-5510

Getn' There: NYS Thruway Exit #42, south on route 14 into Geneva. Left at the light in town onto 5&20 east. Right onto Rt. 96A and follow through Willard. At the 4-corners in Lodi, a right onto Rt. 414 to the distillery on your left in Burdett, N.Y.
