Online retail giant Amazon has begun renting eBook versions of textbooks for their Kindle ereader and other Kindle mobile apps.

According to Amazon, tens-of-thousands of books will be made available for rental from between 30-days to the whole year.

Once the rental period is up, users will be able to extend their rental or purchase the book.

Students who rent ebooks rather than buying new copies of the physical books can save as much as 80 percent per book, Amazon says.

The Kindle software for mobile devices is free and you can find the textbooks at Amazon's online Textbooks Store.
