YNN highlights the coolest and newest apps for your cell phone or mobile device in the twice-weekly segment “App Wrap.” YNN's Adam Balkin filed the following report.

Twist

This is one of those, "Duh, why didn't anyone think of it sooner", apps. That's because Twist takes some of the basic features of your phone: GPS, messaging, and mapping, and links them to perform one very useful function, telling someone you're supposed to meet exactly what time to expect you based on more than just your best guess. You simply type in where you're going -- you can preprogram some favorites like home, the office, the gym -- then list either by phone number or email people you'd like to notify, and then the app uses algorithms to figure out based on how far you are, your mode of transportation and factors like traffic, exactly what your ETA will be. So, for example, I start my commute home: Rather than calling my wife a thousand times when I'm in traffic, then out of traffic, then back in traffic, the app will simply send her text messages, emails, or if she has the app too notifications about when to expect me. And though right now Twist is a free iPhone only app, and Android version is in the works, all someone needs to get those updates is any phone capable of receiving a text message.

Songza

From an app that helps take the thinking out of notifying a loved one or colleague, Songza takes the thinking out of choosing what music to listen to. There are lots of music streaming apps out there, many, like Pandora, allow you to start playlists based on one song or artist and then thumb up or down to tailor that playlist to your tastes. Now think of Songza as the lazy man's or woman's Pandora. You don't even have to choose a song or artist. Instead, choose a mood. You can either do so via the concierge who, based on the day and time, will curate six relevant categories (like on a Sunday night you get things like a Relax at Home button or a Hanging with the Kids button) and playlists are loaded that way. Or, if you search, you can look for playlists based on activities -- nearly everything you can think of is in there -- or by mood. Again, you'd be hard pressed to find a mood not covered for you. Songza is also a free app for iOS and Android devices.
