Elderberry Pond, a USDA certified organic farm with over 100 varieties of apple trees, sits in the Finger Lakes region. The farm’s general manager Lou Lego said that they have a very large variety of crops to not only meet with the demands of the customers at their restaurant but also so that insects can live in their own habitats. Dry shade is a really hard place to grow plants because there is no water or light, especially near roads where lots of salt is left in the winter. However epimedium, commonly known as barrenwort, grows very well in dry shade.
