In Bedford, NY, the closest most will ever come to sleeping anywhere near Richard Gere is at The Bedford Post Inn.

An hour north of New York City, the inn is at once earthy and glamorous.

Actors and Westchester residents Richard Gere and his wife Carey Lowell bought the Revolutionary War era structure four years ago with partners and are making their mark on it.

Now part of the Relais & Chateaux association of notable small hotels, it is back on the map for its revolutionary dining and hospitality.

Expanding upon its well-received restaurants - the more casual Barn and the colonial Farmhouse - Bedford Post this summer introduced an outdoor patio with a wood fire grill menu.

One of the unexpected touches is a personal pasta maker on staff.

Just as much attention to detail is paid to the Inn side of things.

With eight suites and spacious bathrooms sprouting claw foot tubs and heated floors, much of the original 18th century wood and stone has been reclaimed and used in the restoration.

Rooms can be pricey, but there are other ways to enjoy this beautiful location. It’s close enough for a quick drive out of the city for a memorable meal, some fresh air and reflection on the lovely grounds.

Gere's spiritual side is evident in the Yoga Loft, a soaring and serene space that holds regular classes for guests and sells memberships to locals.

The outstanding yoga classes are reason enough to make a trip here.

The most affordable way to stay at the Bedford Post is to go midweek, from Tuesday through Thursday, through Labor Day. Then the inn provides a $100 discount on rooms normally costing between $395 and $650 before taxes.

Complimentary soft drinks and continental breakfast are included.
