Lettuce thinned and a salad made

Lettuce thinned and a salad made

Well, the lettuce needed thinning and that's exactly what I did on Saturday. I took out two rows of plants and decided to try a salad made with the greens. To say it was earthy is putting it mildly. The lettuce was somewhat bitter but overall wasn't that bad. A little light ranch dressing helped...a lot. It still needs to grow some to come to full flavor, I guess.

Our other web garden plants are doing well. Our carrots are growing more and more every day and the peas have many pods. I tried a couple of the peas on Friday and they were small but tender and sweet. They'll be very good when they're fully-grown.

We have plenty of cayenne peppers growing and we'll enjoy those when they get a bit bigger. We have flowers on our habanera pepper plant but no fruit yet.

The bean plants have slowed a bit in the growth department but there is plenty of time left for them to produce some green beans. Those will be delicious sauted in some butter with a little salt and pepper.

The squash plants have lost all their blossoms and I think transplanting them may have done some harm. The zucchini is producing some new flowers but none so far on the summer squash.

Overall, our container garden is thriving with just a couple of exceptions, the squash and one of the tomato plants still struggling.

We received photos of of a few gardens this week and we've posted them for your enjoyment. If you have photos you want to share just drop us a line at web@ynn.com.
