Experts say don't be discouraged by weight loss plateau
It happens to everyone. You're exercising to lose extra weight or tone up and suddenly you hit a wall.
"There have been times where I continually doing one exercise and then you just stop seeing the results. So you got to like really get it in gear," says gym-goer Ryan White.
When it comes to getting things in gear, Lace Stone of Lacey Stone Fitness and an instructor at Equinox Fitness Clubs says there are a few things you can do if it looks like your weight loss plan has reached its plateau.
First, she suggests breaking out of your mold to get results.
"If you're spinning all the time, five days a week, you have to change it up," says Stone. "Do a boot camp class; try kickboxing to change up the routine. Once you get comfortable with something, your body is not going change."
Stone also recommends adding or subtracting a day from your workout depending on how much you exercise.

"If you work out three days a week, add on one more day, work out four," she says. "You're going to see dramatic results if you stay consistent with four days per week. Add on another day, five, and I know a lot of people in New York, we're crazy we work out too much. So something that might be helpful is if you take a day off. It's better for your body. You need to recover."
Her third suggestion is do not coast through workouts. Be sure to boost intensity, as she says average effort produces average results.
Along with augmentations to your fitness routine, you can also make changes to your diet.
Registered dietician Marissa Lippert, owner of Nourish Nutrition Counseling, says kicking up that workout routine may often leave you ravenous. On top of avoiding over-compensating with extra calories, Lippert says there are also some other rules you'll want to follow.
"One is timing," she says. "You want to make sure that within about an hour to an hour and a half after a workout, you are consuming a small meal or a satisfying snack. That's going to help refuel your muscles and boost your metabolism."
After a tough workout, Lippert says some of the best foods for refueling include healthy complex carbohydrates and protein. To help meet your weight loss goals, you also want to avoid waiting too long to eat between meals. So pack some healthy bites to go.
"Incorporate a satisfying snack like a skim latte, a banana, a handful of almonds or walnuts," says Lippert. "You'll keep your metabolism boosted throughout the day and that will help kick off that weight loss plan."
