YNN highlights the coolest and newest apps for your cellphone or mobile device in the twice-weekly segment "App Wrap." YNN's Adam Balkin filed the following report.
Touch Van Gogh
If you are not an art lover, a new app may change your outlook. It's called Touch Van Gogh, and was created by the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. You choose one of his iconic paintings and there a handful of tools to help you uncover secrets that are right there in the painting that help you understand how it was made, why it was made, and how restorations have helped it to look as good today.
For example, you can click the location button, and use the slider to dissolve the painting in over a photograph of the spot that served as its inspiration. Click the restoration button to see where the painting was damaged or how it got faded, and then through one of a few different interactive methods you get to see a then and now depiction. You can also see xrays, zoom in on brush strokes, and click on the question mark on the side for a more in depth explanation of what you're seeing.
Touch Van Gogh is a free app for iPads and Android tablets.
If Touch Van Gogh inspired you to take a trip over to Amsterdam to see the actual paintings, LoungeBuddy might be a helpful app to take before you go. It's great for any trip that requires some time in an airport, especially if you're not one of those saavy, frequent flyers who has access to those lush airport lounges. However, some of those lounges are free for anyone, some may be open to you based on what type of credit card you use, and some are accessible if you're willing to pay a few bucks.
The app asks where you're going, what types of credit cards and frequent flyer programs you use, then it lists all the airport lounges that are available. You can then drill down and look for those with certain features like a children's room or showers. If you find one you like you can even preview it via the pictures and check out some reviews.
LoungeBuddy is a free app for iOS devices and is due out soon for Androids as well.
