Monday, Utica radio station KISS FM put on the first ever McWedding in the Mohawk Valley. The wedding, held in the play area of McDonald's in Yorkville, was officiated by disc jockey and certified minister “Kookenbacher.”
"We took entries because if anyone's ever planned a wedding they know it's a huge amount of work. And we thought this would be a fun way to help a couple get married who didn't have all the time who already had busy lives and could have our McWedding here at McDonald's. We thought this would be a great way for two people to come together on Valentine’s Day and really what more perfect day for it," Kookenbacher said.
The station selected 24-year-old Peter Kravec and 20-year-old Shari Lynn Ford to be the lucky couple.
“Actually it's going to be hard for me not to laugh during the ceremony I mean getting married at McDonald's in the play area I mean I don't think anybody can say they've done it,” Kravec said.
But laughing aside, Kravec and Ford were officially pronounced husband and wife just after 10:30 a.m. in front of about 50 family and friends.
"By the power vested in me by the state of New York and the Universal Live Church I now declare you to be husband and wife."
The ceremony featured everything you would find at an average wedding reception, in a unique sort of way. An official wedding stroll down the play slide and a buffet filled with cheese burgers, french fries and even a wedding cake.
Both family and friends of the couple say they were very surprised when they found out the couple was getting married at McDonald's but Peter says he had always planned to do something crazy and unique for his wedding.
"Well I was so surprised about them getting married I was lost for words. I didn't have words. We've been going through a lot of sickness in the family during the week so when Peter told me they were getting married I said 'no you're not' and he says 'Yes I am.' But I'm very happy for both of them," said Madeline Kravec, the groom’s mother.
"Everybody that knows me I've always been a weird guy and I do crazy things and this will do it," Peter Kravec said.
The bride also admits she loves to live on the edge. The couple was given a limo and local hotel room for the night making this Valentine’s Day one they won't soon forget.
Both the couple and KISS FM want to thank McDonald's of Yorkville for hosting the wedding.
