CHENANGO COUNTY, N.Y. -- Jury deliberations will continue Friday morning in the retrial of Peter Wlasiuk.
The Oxford native is accused of killing his wife Patricia back in 2002 and staging a car accident to cover up the crime. Wlasiuk's previous conviction was thrown out in 2006.
During closing arguments on Thursday, the defense said police in the original investigation showed questionable behavior and compromised evidence. The prosecution says Wlasiuk lied to everyone and told police he and his wife were in a car accident at Guilford Lake so police would not think of him as suspect. They say he smothered his wife and then staged the accident to collect life insurance money.
The jury is combing through 52 hours of testimony and deliberations are expected to keep going until late this evening.
Deliberations resume at 8 a.m.
