SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The father accused of giving away his four-year-old child will undergo a mental health evaluation.
Damion Davis, 39, of Syracuse, has been charged with abandoning a child. Davis told police he gave his son, Qua'mere Rogers, away a few years ago to a group called the United Nation of Moors. Davis was arrested on Tuesday.
On Friday, his defense attorney, Patricia Campbell, requested that Davis undergo a health exam. The city court judge approved that request and the results are expected back within two weeks. Once the results come in, the judge will then schedule a preliminary hearing.
Davis is currently being held at the Onondaga County jail on $5,000 bond and $2,500 cash bail.
