ALBANY, N.Y. -- Governor Paterson has appointed Brigadier General Patrick Murphy as the 52nd Adjutant General of New York State. He replaces Major General Joseph Taluto who is retiring on Feb. 14.
Murphy is a 32-year veteran of the Army National Guard and is currently serving as the New York National Guard's Director of Joint Staff and Assistant Adjutant General. He is responsible for the National Guard's state emergency and homeland security operations.
In his new position, Murphy will be responsible for ensuring that the more than 16,000 members of the New York Army and Air National Guard are prepared for a number of situations, including federal missions and state emergencies in New York.
