LIVERPOOL, N.Y. -- Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick says the Liverpool woman charged with murder after her baby was found dead in a dumpster has another child. Fitzpatrick says that child, who is five years old, is currently in the care of the grandmother.
Nicole DeJaynes, 29, was charged with second-degree murder late Friday night after her newborn daughter was found at the Pearl Street Apartments more than a week ago.
Authorities had originally planned to determine possible charges after getting a final report from the medical examiner but they say DeJaynes was released without notification to police from the medical facility where she was being evaluated. Because of that, and the concern that she was a flight risk, the DA's office expedited the charge against DeJaynes.
Police say at this point she has been cooperative with their investigation and has made a statement.
"There were several contacts with the individual before we brought her in to be questioned. It was probably over a three-day period, and it was based on information we received through online tips and information that we confirmed through various agencies," said Liverpool Police Chief William becker.
The Liverpool Police Department named the baby girl Isabella, and they plan to hold a funeral for the child unless any family comes forward.
