As the community continues to mourn the loss of Deputy Wyman. Our Brad Vivacqua is in the southern Oneida County hamlet where it all happened just 24 hours ago.
KNOXBORO, N.Y. -- It's been a very emotional 24 hours for everyone and anyone that knew 24-year old Kurt Wyman. The deputy sheriff was well liked and had his young family to look forward to.
As we've seen here in Oneida County, there will likely be several memorials and dedication ceremonies in the officers honor in the days ahead.
As we've been telling you in the past five years, there have been multiple officer-related shootings including now three fatalities.
"Unfortunately we have had to go through this three times in the last four years where our officers have been killed in the line of duty. Joseph Corr, Tom Lindsay and now Deputy Wyman. He was, as the sheriff said a fine example of the law enforcement that this community has been so grateful and fortunate to have among us," said Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente.
Deputy Wyman joined the force in 2007 and already received a number of honors. He was also active in USMC Reserves as a corporal, and served in Iraq in 2008.
At Tuesday's press conference. the sheriff, along with the DA told us that many of the details are being withheld at this point from the public as the investigation continues. There are still many questions surrounding the fatal shooting.
