If you travel along Interstate 81 in Syracuse, it's evident many of the new stores, restaurants, and additions at Carousel Center are getting closer to opening. Plenty of signage has been placed on the mall's new expanded area which will soon be known as Destiny USA. YNN’s Brad Vivacqua reports.
ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- If you've been to Carousel Center or have driven by, you can notice many signs have been placed on the Destiny expansion. Since November, three stores - Lenox, Hartmann, and designer store Michael Kor's - have opened in the new area. An expanded Forever 21 store also opened in the current Carousel Center.
It's expected 100 new tenants will fill the mall's expansion in the next few years to join the 160 existing now at Carousel Center. Officials with Destiny say plenty of research and studies go into which tenants will be brought to the mall and will be appealing.
There are a few new additions you can expect to see opening in June and July: Saks Fifth Avenue, BCBG Max Azria, the Melting Pot fondue restaurant, and Cantina Laredo, which is a Mexican restaurant.
The mall will officially transition from Carousel to Destiny USA at a rebranding event on August 2nd.
"The food offering is greatly enhanced from what we have in Carousel which is already good. The outlet component, the entertainment component up on the third floor. Our goal is that people will be able to come, spend longer amounts of time, and we help put Syracuse on the map," said David Aitken, Destiny Executive Member.
In addition, a few others expected to open this year are Pole Position Raceway, which is an indoor go-cart track, PF Chang’s, Ecko Unlimited, and a new Regal IMAX theatre. About 30 new tenants have been announced so far with many more announcements to come, and as the saying goes, the best is yet to come.
To get construction and announcement updates, your best option is to visit the Destiny website or Facebook page.
