ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY, N.Y. -- A statewide initiative is encouraging children to help others.
Under the Kids are Key program, chosen kids and groups will get $100 to create a project that will address a specific need in their community. The goal is to help children develop skills such as leadership, teamwork, planning and communication.
"This is a summer long program and at the end of the summer, we will be collecting the results and studying how kids see themselves in the community and how they turn compassion into action," said Alicia Murphy, Community Action Angels Coordinator.
The St. Lawrence County Community Action Angels are looking for participants in three categories. They include one child age six to 12, a family group or a group of five children between the ages of 13 and 18.
Applications must be submitted by July 6th.
Anyone interested in participating can apply by answering the question: 'If you had $100, what kinds of project would you develop to help other kids in your community?'
Answers can be sent to Community Action Angels, St. Lawrence County CDP, One Commerce Lane, Canton NY, 13617 or emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
