CAMILLUS, N.Y. -- The Camillus community came out to celebrate the Erie Canal this weekend. Towpath Day was held at the Erie Canal Park on Saturday.
The event has been going on for about 20 years. Towpath Day features food, crafts, and vintage music and games dating back to the 1800s. Organizers said it's all about recognizing the importance of the canal in New York's history.
"The Erie Canal really was the highway, the Thruway of it's day. It actually brought economic growth. New York State became the Empire State because of it's use," said Liz Beebe, organizer.
Towpath Day was part of the seventh annual Canal Splash, a weekend of events along the canal all across the state.
