GOUVERNEUR, N.Y. -- A North Country family lost everything in a fire Monday morning, including their pets. Officials say they were lucky just to survive.
The fire happened in Gouverneur.
Parents and their two young children were sleeping in their rented farm house when the fire broke out.
According to officials, the father awoke to the smell of smoke and got the rest of the family up. He kicked out an air conditioner from their second story bedroom and jumped out. His wife then passed down their three-year-old and two-week-old before jumping out herself.
The husband and wife suffered minor injuries but otherwise are okay. Officials still don't know the cause of the fire.
