SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Local groups gathered outside the Southwest Community Center in Syracuse to protest Congresswoman Ann Marie Buerkle.
Community and labor groups protested outside as Buerkle met one on one with constituents Thursday. They are urging the Republican to end her endorsement of the Romney-Ryan budget plan. They say the plan would provide one trillion dollars in tax cuts to the rich, which are paid for by cuts to social security and Medicare.
Protesters say Buerkle has voted against the best interests of her constituents and they want her to listen to the community when it comes to the Romney-Ryan budget plan.
"We want to encourage and we want Ann Marie Buerkle to vote no for the Ryan budget. As a community, as I shared before, it equals a lot of devastating cuts and so as a community, we're asking her and urging her to vote no for the Ryan budget," said Lanika Mabrey, Community Organizer for Citizen Action.
Buerkle is facing a challenge from democrat Dan Maffei and Green Party candidate Ursula Rozum in the upcoming election.
