BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -- Congressman Richard Hanna and House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman John Mica paid a visit to the Greater Binghamton Airport Monday.
The airport recently received a $1 million grant through the U.S. Department of Transportation. That money will be used to rehabilitate the airport's north apron where aircrafts taxi, park and load fuel.
Hanna says securing that kind of funding for the airport is important for economic development in the region and helps retains businesses and employers in the area.
"Allot of these regional airports are troubled getting flights out of them because it simply isn't profitable, but yet they are an integral part of the community. These are expenses, $1 million, is a lot of money, but these are also investments in the future of every community this is put in," said Hanna.
Hanna's Congressional opponent Dan Lamb released a statement Monday saying the airport is lucky to receive the funding, but criticized Congressman Hanna's voting record and says he should not take credit for the grant.
