CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY, N.Y. -- It was an emotional morning at Clymer Central School Wednesday as students, teachers and community members gathered for a prayer service.
Those in both the Clymer and Sherburne-Earlville districts are mourning the loss of Keith Reed Jr.
Reed was the current superintendent at Clymer, but was also well known in the Southern Tier because he was a former principal in the Sherburne-Earlville district.
The annual See You at the Pole event at Clymer was moved inside because of the rain. Those inside say there were lots of hugs, tears, music and prayers days after Reed was found dead with gunshot wounds.
Several people cited scripture and offered individual prayers as well.
"These kids need hugs, they need prayers, the need love, they need to know they're not alone, they need to feel secure and taken care of and they need to know that God is still on the throne, he is still at work and he is still taking care of them," Pastor Erin Beckerink said.
This is supposed to be spirit week at the school, leading up to Friday’s football game and Saturday night’s homecoming dance. YNN is told both of those events will continue as scheduled.
And calling hours begin Wednesday night for Reed. They're being held from 7 to 9 p.m. and again Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the O'Rourke and O'Rourke Funeral Home on River Street in Salamanca.
A funeral will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the United Congregational Methodist Church.
