NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. -- A spokesman for the family of the girl killed at the College at Brockport early Saturday morning has identified the victim. The family said the victim is Alexandra Kogut, 18, of New Hartford.
She was found dead in her dorm room by campus security early Saturday morning. Police said Kogut suffered severe trauma to her upper body. Her mother had called security after she hadn't heard from her daughter.
The spokesman also released a statement that said, "Alexandra Kogut was a bright, beautiful young woman who was thrilled to be beginning her college education. Her lovely and sweet demeanor was truly infectious and she will forever be missed. Her family is very grateful for the tremendous outpouring of love and support that they have received from so many friends and neighbors."
Kogut was a freshman majoring in communications.
SUNY Brockport's President has released a statement on Kogut's death, saying:
“On behalf of our entire campus community, I offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Alexandra Kogut. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her loved ones at this difficult time. These are trying times for our campus but I know we will pull together and support each other as we move through the coming days.”
