SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Dozens of veterans returned home after an emotional and fulfilling day in Washington, D.C. after the inaugural Honor Flight. The group made the trip to D.C. to visit memorial sites like Arlington Cemetery, and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and it was all at no cost to them.
Veterans said the trip was a great way to connect with other veterans who share similar experiences and memories of past wars, and appreciate the recognition from those who organized the flight.
"This honor flight is just what us old vets need. I can't say how much I appreciate what this group has done. It was just perfect," said Donald Newsholme, World War II veteran.
An organizer of the flight said the planning and preparation for Saturday's event took close to year.
