ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- A Syracuse native who is believed to have been healed by Mother Marianne Cope in 1993 spoke to students at Christian Brothers Academy on All Saints Day.
Kate Mahoney was diagnosed with cancer in August 1992 when she was only 14 years old. She had surgery to remove a tumor, but after chemotherapy, her organs began to fail.
Doctors told her she wasn't going to live. But Mahoney believes she was healed by Cope when a nun visited her in the hospital and prayed for Cope's intercession.
Within weeks of being visited by the nun, Mahoney's vital functions returned.
Cope became a Saint on October 21st during a canonization ceremony in Rome.
