STATEWIDE -- National Guard troops from across the state have been spending a lot of time helping Sandy victims recover. More than 3,500 members of the New York Army and Air National Guard were called to respond.
Among them, are more than 300 soldiers from the 204th Engineer Battalion, with units in Binghamton and Horseheads. They've been active in removing debris from the storm surge.
"There certainly is a lot of satisfaction in helping these people our and getting these communities back in order. Like I said, we're not dealing with the damage that they're dealing with down here. These people, their whole entire lives have been turned upside down," said Major Erik Stevens.
There's no word yet when the Guard members will be returning home.
