The Dick's Sporting Goods Open turned into a country music fan's dream Friday night. Thousands of Tim McGraw fans got to see their favorite singer up close and personal. As our Elyse Mickalonis tells us, many say they were shocked to see such a big name so close to home.
ENDICOTT, N.Y. -- Golf players may have owned the day Friday at the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open but nighttime was all for Tim McGraw.
People here say there's something about McGraw's personality and soul that translates into his music, making him one of their favorites.
"He’s just awesome! Great music, great body, great music," Utica resident Melissa Williams said.
"It’s mind-boggling that we would come here we’re flattered. Very blessed. It’s great that he came to our little tiny town," said Vestal resident Dawn.
The country singer took the stage in front of thousands Friday and even helped out one of his fans, alerting EMS to someone who had fallen.
For some, it was the chance to see inspiration up close and personal.
"I'm a singer myself, so I really like singing country music sometimes, because I like singing with a guitar or banjo," said Binghamton resident Kate Salamida.
For others, it was the chance to listen to their favorite kind of music.
"I like country music, because it speaks to Upstate New York. Upstate New York is America’s heartland and it has to do with the issues we deal with," said Binghamton resident Zach Dinga.
