HERKIMER COUNTY, N.Y. -- The man accused of shooting and killing his son has rejected a plea deal.
Michael Leach, a former Rochester police captain, was charged with second degree murder after he says he accidentally shot his son at Clark's Beach Motel in Old Forge in July of 2012.
In Herkimer County court two weeks ago, District Attorney Jeff Carpenter offered a plea deal. Leach would have to plead guilty to a lesser charge of second degree manslaughter and would be sentenced to three to nine years in prison.
The case will now move to trial. Jury selection will begin November 18th.
Calls to Leach's attorney were not returned.
