JEFFERSON COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Jefferson Rehabilitation Center holds a Community Awareness Meeting to discuss changes in programming and services for people with disabilities.
The changes are due to funding cuts by the state and include changes to managed care and eligibility for services.
The JRC will also not be hiring any more new disabled employees to their workshop which will cause those with disabilities to look for employment within the community.
Directors say these forums are meant to give community members better peace of mind about the changes to come.
JRC Executive Director Howard Ganter said, "Family members who are currently receiving services are concerned that things are going to change and their children might not get the same service, and the new people coming in are worried about what is going to be offered and will it meet their families needs, and also as we move to more integrated employment in the community, family members who are concerned about safety for their family members out there who are working."
The JRC plans to hold another meeting next month.
