BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Local leaders in Binghamton push for stronger federal gun control legislation.
Binghamton Mayor Matt Ryan, Police Chief Joseph Zikuski, and City Councilwoman Lea Webb held a rally on Thursday. It began in Confluence Park and traveled to the Peacemakers Stage.
The advocates are urging Congress to pass federal gun control legislation, including stricter background checks, and banning high capacity magazines.
"The argument is we are taking guns away from normal citizens, hunters. That's not the case. We're looking to eliminate these magazines with 15 rounds in them, we are looking to eliminate handguns coming from the south up into our state," said Zikuski.
Those involved with the rally urge the public to call their representatives and push for stronger federal gun control laws.
