CLAYTON, N.Y. -- Athletes from around the region competed in the fourth annual River Rat Triathlon in Clayton on Sunday morning.
This year's race took on a new mission as contestants ran for children with medical challenges as part of the Children's Miracle Network.
The race included a 600 meter swim, a 17 mile bike ride, and a three mile ride. Once contestants crossed the finished line, they gathered at the post-race party in celebration of the Miracle Kids.
Ten miracle children were at the event to meet with the racers and share their stories. According to the racers, the triathlon was a great experience for everyone involved.
"They have a big heart and they are really putting forth energy for a cause that is very near and dear to my heart so I am pretty proud of all of them," said Rhonda Foote, mother of a Miracle Child.
"Everyone is cheering and bells are ringing and you not only accomplished something for yourself but also for a great cause," added Chad Penoyer, a top ten finisher.
The party featured awards, face painting, music, food and other activities for people of all ages.
