NEW YORK STATE FAIR -- After eight years of brewing experience, an Oswego County man's beer won Best in Show at the NYS Fair Award Ceremonies for Commercial Wine, Amateur Wine and Home Brews. The awards ceremony was held at the Empire Theatre Sunday afternoon.
Carl Woodward of Panther Lake was the recipient of the "home brewed" beer award.
Woodward is joining forces with Saranac and there will be a release party for his creation on September 5th. He says that adding a Gose, or a mix of salt and lactic acid to the German wheat brew is what made it so delicious.
"Lots of judging of beers and competition and some might put a Gose in it and it's kind unique and I like brewing unique stuff. I remember my mom always putting salt in the beer, so I was like, okay let's try it," Woodward said.
