Tennis fans are in for a treat this week in New York City. The biggest and brightest in the sport are taking part in the U.S. Open at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in the city. Roger Clark has more.
NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. --Tennis fans from around the world are cheering on their favorites at the U.S. Open.
For the next two weeks, the best in the sport will compete in the tournament for the championship. This year, Serena Williams is defending the women's title, while on the men's side, Novak Djokovic is entering as the number one tennis player in the world.
Crowds are packed with excited fans for the first day at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
"It is awesome, it's awesome. We come all the way from Massachusetts every year. We come and we do the kids day and then we come the first few days and we have a blast," one person said.
The men's semi finals and finals are already sold out.
