NEW YORK STATE FAIR – There is some good news for New Yorkers. Millions of dollars in unclaimed funds are being returned.
State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli was on hand Monday at his Office of Unclaimed Funds Booth inside the Center of Progress Building to give out checks to anyone who qualified.
Much of the money comes from inactive accounts that are turned over to the state by law. In Onondaga County alone, there are $40 million worth of unclaimed funds. The typical claim comes in under $100.
But if you're not at the fair, don't worry. You can still check to see if you have unclaimed funds.
"You can go into our website, click on for the unclaimed funds account in the Office for New York State Comptroller. And we've made it very easy for you to apply online. If you see your name and you can quickly verify that you're connected to that account, in a matter of days, you can have this money returned to you," said DiNapoli.
