UTICA, N.Y. -- A Utica rap artist is slowly building up a reputation. Geno Brown, or G-Swiss, won two Upstate independent music awards last year. He plans to put out his debut album this week called, 'UTICA.'
G-Swiss says he focuses on local pride, but raps as a way of coping with other things.
Brown said, "I went through a lot of personal struggles the last six or seven years, lost my father about six years ago. So pretty much this was my outlet to express my emotions. Just never had no outlets to do so growing up. Didn't know how to do it the best way, so music was basically my option for me, basically therapeutic, you know what I'm saying?"
G-Swiss is also playing in a local talent showcase called 'Rising Stars' at MVCC at 8 p.m. on Saturday.
