State Police are investigating claims of potential animal abuse after a Facebook photo went viral over the weekend, purporting to show the condition of a horse in Franklin County. Our Barry Wygel has more on the investigation from Franklin County.
MOIRA, N.Y. --The photo that started it all was said to be taken on Best Road in the Franklin County town of Moira. The picture, later posted on Facebook showed a horse that appeared to be not cared for.
That photo sparked community outrage and calls into State Police and other law enforcement agencies concerned for the well-being of the horse. We talked with State Police and they say there is an open investigation into the care and well-being of those horses.
The horses are no longer on Best Road and we are not exactly sure where they have been moved to. Police say they are currently working with the Franklin County District Attorney's Office to see when or if charges should be filed.
"Once the District Attorney and the State Police convene to talk about it, I don't know when the date will be that the case will be closed or when charges will be brought or if they will be brought," said New York State Trooper Jennifer Fleishman.
The owners of the horse were unavailable for comment and calls into the District Attorney's office to see what or if charges will be filed have gone unreturned.
