MADISON COUNTY, N.Y. -- Madison County says a mosquito pool in the Town of Sullivan has tested positive for EEE.
Right now, health officials are not proposing aerial spraying, but they want people to take precautions to protect themselves from the insects.
A mosquito pool along Moore Road tested positive on Thursday. The health department is reaching out to at-risk residents and horse stables in the area.
If you live in a mosquito prone area, experts say you should use bug spray on exposed skin, eliminate standing water which can be a breeding ground for the pests, change water in birdbaths and troughs at least twice a week and whenever possible cover yourself with long sleeve shirts and pants during peak mosquito hours at dusk and dawn.
