SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A Syracuse man has been arrested for allegedly robbing the Chase Bank on West Fayette Street Thursday.
Officials say Robin Gutheridge, 26, went into the bank and passed a threatening not to the teller who then gave him money. Police say Gutheridge then ran from the bank and a short while later they were notified that he had entered a building on South Clinton Street.
While officers were searching the building, they heard someone calling out from the garbage chute in the basement of the building. When crews got down to the basement, they found him trapped in the garbage chute near the compactor with severe injuries.
Officials believe Gutheridge climbed into the chute from the 21st floor and then fell all the way to the bottom.
The Syracuse Fire Department was able to get him out of the chute and he was taken to a hospital where he is in critical condition. Police say he still had some of the money from the bank on him.
Gutheridge will be charged with robbery when he is released from the hospital.
