ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. – A Syracuse man has been sentenced to 18 years in state prison for the murder of his father.
Herman Tolbert Jr. was accused of forcing his way into his parents' home in the Town of Clay and stabbing his father after an argument in August of 2011.
His father, Herman Tolbert Sr., 68, was pronounced dead at the scene. Tolbert also stole his father’s car, which led detectives to believe he was the one responsible. He turned himself in shortly after that.
Tolbert was also sentenced to two-and-a-half years of post release supervision.
