College football season kicked off Saturday for SU fans. The Orange took on Penn State at MetLife Stadium. And while the outcome wasn't what Orange fans hoped for, they say there are still more reasons to be excited for the coming season. Our Sarah Blazonis spoke with some who got to watch the game from Chevy Court at the fairgrounds
NEW YORK STATE FAIR -- It's not the kind of entertainment Chevy Court is used to. But Saturday, fairgoers came decked out in their orange and blue to cheer on their favorite team.
"Pumped, this is it. Let's go Orange!" said Nick Elkin.
Eddie Van Slyke said, "I might be here for six hours, right on this bench at Chevy Court. I look forward to it. It's going to be fun."
It's a new season for the Orange. And with it comes membership to a new conference and a new head coach. Scott Shafer is leading the team following former Coach Doug Marrone's departure for a position with the Buffalo Bills.
"Kind of rebuilding, I think. But in the end, I think it will be better. I think we'll win the majority of games," Michael Pike said.
The game was also welcome entertainment for SU lovers who came to Chevy Court hours earlier to stake out seats for Saturday's OAR concert.
Chris Unangst said, "When I heard that SU was playing, I was like, 'I gotta get there even earlier now because I can see the game, too, while I wait for front row seats."
And one of the most exciting parts for fans: Getting to see how the Orange do against other Atlantic Coast Conference members.
Maureen Manzene said "I think the team's are gonna be a lot tougher to play, but I think it's a good thing. You know, it'll challenge us, but it'll be a good season as always."
Van Slyke said, "I have season tickets, so I'm excited about the changes and all the different teams. Clemson coming here is going to be nice."
And while the Orange ultimately fell to the Penn State Nittany Lions 23-17, fans say they're looking forward to seeing the team carve out a place for itself in the ACC.
The Orange play again this coming Saturday against Northwestern.
