FULTON, N.Y. – There is an update on the former Birds Eye plant in Fulton.
In January, city officials announced the plant had been sold and would be reopened within six months by a chicken processing company. So far, that hasn't happened, but Fulton Mayor Ron Woodward says the new tenant is getting closer to opening it back up.
The name of the chicken company has not been released, but Woodward says they currently have a small crew working on the facility's refrigeration units, as well as other machinery. He expects them to begin hiring for about 200 job openings within the next month.
The building was left vacant back in December of 2011 when Birds Eye moved their production to the Midwest, taking nearly 300 jobs with them.
