ELMIRA, N.Y. -- A fire forced a family to evacuate their home in Elmira.
According to the deputy fire chief, firefighters were called to 713 Spaulding Street around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday. The house was already engulfed in flames by the time crews arrived to the scene.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire inside the home in about 15 minutes, but the flames in the attic took almost an hour to put out.
The mother and her two children were able to get out of the home safely. However, one firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
