SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The City of Syracuse has shutdown three corner stores for code violations as part of a crackdown. It's an initiative to help clean up city neighborhoods.
City Hall leaders say some corner stores have become a haven for questionable activities.
Thursday's sweep targeted six stores with three being closed.
Officials say Brothers Fine Foods on Dudley Avenue was cited for improperly connected electrical service, plumbing violation, improperly draining food, waste and water, as well as an issue with the hot water heater.
The South Avenue Market was closed for improper electrical cabling, open sewer drains, unsupported gas piping and improper venting of gas fired equipment.
The 1st North Market was closed indefinitely due to its failure to have a certificate of occupancy.
