NEW YORK STATE -- This November, New York State voters will get their say on Proposition One, which would legalize gambling at non-Indian Casinos.
Now, the owner of both Vernon Downs and Tioga Downs is asking residents to support Prop One. Jeff Gural says it is good for both his company and the state's economy.
If passed, the amendment would allow for seven full non-Indian casinos to be built. Vernon Downs would not have the option to expand, due to an exclusivity agreement the Oneida Indians came to with Governor Andrew Cuomo, but Tioga Downs potentially could.
"They divided the state into regions and one of the regions is the Southern Tier, so we would be eligible to apply for a casino license there and I think that overall would help the Upstate region, table games is a jobs bills, because you need people to deal the cards, take the money, spin the wheel and roll the dice," said Gural.
If approved, Proposition One would require four of the seven casinos to be in the Upstate area.
