SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Rescue Mission hosted its annual party on Saturday in Syracuse.
The second annual Mission Block Party included live bands, games for the kids, food, and a petting zoo. According to organizers, the event celebrates everything the Rescue Mission stands for. It also is a way to reach out to the community it serves.
"I've seen former folks that received services from us years ago come in and its been neat to catch up with them and see how great they are doing, and for them to just thank us again, because one of the things they've said and repeated is The Mission will never turn its back. We'll always be here to help those in need," said Alan Thornton, Rescue Mission.
Thornton said the Rescue Mission serves about 800 meals per day, and gives shelter to about 140 people every night.
