CAYUGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Harriet Tubman Residential Center in Sennett has officially been sold.
The entire 110 acres of land and the building sold for $900,000.
The successful bidder was not named by the state and plans for the property have not been announced.
The Harriet Tubman Residential Center was built in 1993 and was a juvenile justice facility for young women. It was shut down by the state as a cost-saving measure.
Leaders say the property will be back on the tax roll, a move that could help the town. Both sides will now work to close the deal.
Transfer of ownership is expected to take place during the next several months.
